SOUTHFIELD, Mich. -- The fourth-ranked Siena Heights men's lacrosse team dropped their first contest of the year 11-10 to Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference opponent No. 9 Lawrence Tech, on Tuesday.
Chris Acton opened the scoring for the Saints (2-1, 0-1 WHAC) in the first quarter. SHU netted three more goals that quarter, ending it with a 4-2 advantage.
Siena Heights managed three more goals in the second quarter before the Blue Devils went on an eight goal run through the third quarter to take a 10-7 lead. Shane Lewandowski added a goal before the third quarter ended, making it 10-8.
LTU (6-0, 3-0 WHAC) scored the game-winner with 9:38 remaining in the final quarter, SHU adding two more goals but not enough as Lawrence Tech earned the upset.
Leading the Saints with four goals was Acton, who also tallied an assist. Nicholas Lyons and Lewandowski each added two goals and an assist while John Holowaty and Nathan Lipon tallied a goal a piece.
The Blue Devils were led by Tim Popp with five goals and one assist. Tristan Burkhard tallied three goals as Austin McKee, Gabe O'Neil and Alex Gruber each finished a shot.
Winning goalie Jacob Sacdalan stopped seven shots for LTU. Defender Alex Schlueter helped with two caused turnovers and eight groundballs. Siena Heights goaltender Tyler Hooper made a total 15 saves while grabbing eight groundballs.
The Saints were outshot, 56-27, as the Blue Devils held a 13-20 turnover advantage.
