Siena Heights junior attack Marissa Cirino was chosen as the 2021 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Women's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Year. Cirino also took home a first-team all-WHAC selection and a place on the All-Academic squad.
Cirino ranks 5th in the NAIA in goals per game (4.4), 5th in SOG per game (6.5), 6th in points per game (6.1), 12th in shots per game (7.5), 14th in total goals (44), 19th in total shots on goal (65), 23rd in assists per game (1.7), 28th in total shots (75), and 32nd in total assists (17. Marissa led the team in goals (44), assists (17), points (61), shots (75), and shots on goal (65). She was second on the team in ground balls (28). She earned WHAC Offensive Player of the Week three weeks in a row and NAIA Offensive Player of the Week two times. she tied program history in the record for the most goals in a single game as she tallied 10 goals in the game against Indiana Tech.
"Marissa is a player that can play both ways," said head coach Alexa Matta. "She is dynamite all over the field and a ground ball machine. She has great field vision and is always working to make herself better. Marissa is a key player for us on both sides of the field."
Joining Cirino on the first-team All-WHAC was Elizabeth Elliott. She was also on the All-Academic team. Elliott ranks 8th in the NAIA in saves per game (10.560) and 12th in total saves (95). Elizabeth started nine games and played 462:20 minutes. She recorded 93 saves, a save percentage of 51.4, a record of 4-3, and a win percentage of 57.1.
"Lizzy has been a brick wall for us this season," said head coach Alexa Mata. "Her clears are fantastic to the midfield line. Lizzy has been a true game-changer for us defensively this season."
Senior attack Jenna Sommerville tabbed second-team All-WHAC and WHAC All-Academic. Sommerville ranks 24th in the NAIA in goals per game (3.5), 37th in points per game (4.3), 40th in total goals (35), 47th in shots on goal per game (4.4), and 50th in shots per game (5.5). Jenna started in 10 games and was second on the team in goals (35), points (43), shots (55), and shots on goal (44).
"Jenna is such a strong offensive player for us," said head coach Alexa Matta. "Being a lefty she allows us to run things strongly from the opposite side to change our approach."
Sophomore attack Emily Pringle was named second-team All-WHAC. Pringle started 10 games and tallied 23 goals, five assists, 28 points, 15 ground balls, there draw controls, four caused turnovers, 46 shots, and 37 shots on goal.
"Pringle is a young player for us but she has really popped out of her shell this season," said head coach Alexa Matta. "She suffered an injury last season before COVID so she really didn't get a freshman year. She has stepped up and has been a key offensive player for us."
Senior midfielder Alexis Nicole earned second-team All-WHAC. Nicole started 10 games and was first on the team in caused turnovers (10) and second on the team in draw controls (34). She also recorded 16 goals, six assists, 22 points, 22 ground balls, 30 shots, and 24 shots on goal.
"Lexi is a hidden gem in the midfield, " said head coach Alexa Matta. "She can catch about anything and is a huge threat on the circle for us. Lexi has been a key player in the transition game for us."
Junior defender Reilly Winn was placed on the All-WHAC second-team. Winn started 10 games and earned one goal, one point, 13 ground balls, one draw control, and seven caused turnovers.
"Reilly is a great defensive leader," said head coach Alexa Matta. "She helps keep our D line calm, cool, and collected when things get tough back there. She is a big part of our transition game and keeping the ball on the other end of the field."
Junior attack Ashlyn Childs was chosen as the team's Champions of Character representative. Childs played in four games while recording two goals, two points, one ground ball, and two shots on goal.
Kristin Delclos, Mariah Smythe, Amber Soukup, and Katherine Tapia were also on the All-Academic team.
