Women’s wrestling adds six signees during spring

ADRIAN, Mich. – The Saints women's wrestling program will have a solid foundation to build off of for years to come, with the recent addition of six recruits this spring.

Head Coach Dominic Adams has signed 17 athletes to date.

Four of the signees hail from the Buckeye state, another is from California, and the sixth is from Ohio and is a transfer student.

"I wish I could hit fast-forward, it's August, and the ladies are moving to campus because this is going to be an exciting group," Adams said. "Each one of these ladies has taken up the challenge, privilege, and honor of being a part of our first team in history. They understand the responsibility that comes with that, and while they will make fantastic contributions to our program, more importantly, they'll be tremendous additions to our Siena Heights University community as a whole."

Eaton's Jaelynn Trantanella was a 2022 OHSWCA state qualifier in Ohio, along with fellow Ohioans Cerenity Bergeron (Taylor High School), Bailey Jones (Greeneview High School), and Emma Vaculik (Evergreen High School).

Both Bergeron and Jones qualified for the 2021 OHSWCA state tournament in Ohio.

Alayna Smith will join the Saints as a transfer student from Xavier University. She placed sixth at the 2020 OHSWCA and helped Olentangy-Orange High School to a second-place team finish at the Ohio state finals. She spent the 2021-22 season as the head girls wrestling coach at Highland High School.

And becoming the second Saint to commit to the women's wrestling program from California is Valeria Ahumada from Oakland Tech High School. Ahumada was a state qualifier in 2022 and is a multiple-time USA Wrestling all-American.

The Saints will take the mat for the first time during the 2022-23 school year. To date, the Saints have signed 17 wrestlers for next season.

Any ladies interested in being a part of the first team in school history or learning more about the women's wrestling program are encouraged to fill out the recruit form here.
