ADRIAN, Mich. – The inaugural Saints women's wrestling team continues to take shape as Head Coach Dominic Adams recently announced the addition of four student-athletes inked to letters of intent.
The first team in school history will have strong ties to Ohio as two of the four are from Ohio, including another who is nationally-ranked in Ellie Harlow from Greeneview High School. CiCi Plaud will also be joining the Saints from Rutherford B. Hayes High School.
The Saints picked up their first commit from California in Mia Delgado. She is a multiple-time state placer from California who also is a black belt in Judo, has been on multiple USA Judo national teams, and competed internationally.
The fourth additional recent signee is Makayla Starr, a state placer from Indiana.
"I am very excited about the addition of these four student-athletes because each one of them is a fantastic person, great student, and phenomenal athlete," Adams said. "Each one of these young women is going to achieve their own individual levels of greatness while on campus at Siena Heights University and I can't wait to watch them climb."
Harlow is a two-time state finalist from Greeneview High School in Jamestown, Ohio. Harlow won a state title in 2020 and finished runner-up in 2021. She is currently ranked No. 21 in the nation at 200 pounds, according to USA Wrestling national girls rankings. She was coached by Eric and Wendy Harlow, John Wallace, Mark Matt, and Ray Dickerson at Greeneview. Harlow will pursue a degree in special education.
The other signee from the Buckeye state the Saints recently signed is CiCi Plaud from Delaware Hayes High School near Columbus. Plaud recently led her team to a fourth-place finish in the Ohio High School Wrestling Coaches Association girls dual state championship. She is currently ranked No. 14 at 105 pounds in Ohio. Plaud plans to pursue a degree in nursing or pre-med. She was coached by Josh Lamb, Kevin Rieman, Phil Carr, Jason Barnett, and Andy Graham at Hayes.
Delgado will join the Saints from South El Monte High School in California where she was a two-time state placer. She also excels in judo – making three U.S. national teams, competing internationally at the Pan American Games and World Championships. A California freestyle state runner-up and national team member, Delgado will pursue a degree in criminal justice.
Makayla Starr is the Saints' first commit from the state of Indiana. She wrestled at Marion High School where she was coached by Lonnie Johnson, Joshua Elliot, and Danny Beck. While Starr has been wrestling since she was a little kid, her first competition against girls was Indiana's regional tournament where she finished in fourth place. She went on to earn sixth place at the state finals. Starr will pursue a degree in biology.
The Saints will take the mat for the first time during the 2022-23 school year. To date, the Saints have signed seven wrestlers for next season – and are not showing any signs of slowing down.
