ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights women's volleyball team swept Rochester in straight sets on Monday night inside the SHU Fieldhouse in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) match. The Saints (15-6, 10-5 WHAC) earned their 10th win in league play for the first time in three seasons.
The navy and yellow hit .295 as a team in the match with 45 kills while holding the Warriors to 25 kills and a .104 team hitting percentage.
Autumn Anderson led the offense with eight kills (.562) while adding two blocks, an assist, and a dig. Janel Ruhlman hit .348 on her way to eight kills and three digs. Olivia Norman registered seven kills (.417) in the winning effort. Aubrey Bates tallied 38 assists to pace the attack for SHU. Bates also finished with six digs and four digs. Payton Osborne led the back row with 18 digs. She also contributed offensively with two service aces and an assist.
The Saints came out blazing in the first set as they rattled off the first eight points of the match off the serve of Bates, who registered two service aces in the run. The Warriors rallied to cut the deficit to two points late (24-22), but Anderson drilled a kill to give Siena the 25-22 win in the first frame.
SHU clocked a match-high 19 kills and a .472 hitting percentage in set two as the home team rolled to a convincing 25-13 win to pull ahead to a 2-0 lead in the set score.
The third set was close for the first third of the set, but the Saints began to pull away with a 6-0 run to build a 12-5 lead and never looked back on the way to a 25-13 decision to end the match in three.
