FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- The Siena Heights women's volleyball team suffered a loss in straight sets on the road against Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) foe Indiana Tech on Wednesday night. The Saints (9-3, 5-2 WHAC) suffered just their third loss of the season and second loss in league play with the defeat.
Olivia Norman led the way offensively with nine kills (.286) and also was the team's top defender at the net with three blocks (1/2). Janel Ruhlman finished with six kills (.088) and nine digs in the losing effort. Aubrey Bates paced the SHU attack with 22 assists, nine digs, two kills, and two block assists. Payton Osborne led the backline with a match-high 16 digs.
The Warriors jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead after a 25-22 win in the opening set. A 7-0 run allowed Indiana Tech to pull ahead, 11-6, and they never surrendered the advantage again. The Saints did battle back to cut the deficit to one point (23-22), but it wasn't enough to overcome the early lead.
The second set was all home team as three runs of 4-0 and a 5-0 run sealed a 25-11 outcome for the Warriors as they pulled ahead 2-0 in the set score. The Indiana Tech defense caused SHU fits in the set as the Saints were held to just four kills in the second set.
Siena Heights refused to go down without a fight as a 4-0 run gave the navy and yellow a 12-7 lead in the third. The Saints held a 23-19 advantage and looked to threatened to push the match to a fourth set, but the Warriors pulled off seven of the last eight points to end the night in three, 25-23.
