Saints Sweep Blue Devils to Improve to 4-1 in WHAC Play

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights women's volleyball team beat visiting Lawrence Tech in straight sets on Wednesday inside the SHU Fieldhouse. The Saints (8-2, 4-1 WHAC) finished with a team hitting percentage of .234 to push past the Blue Devils (0-4, 0-4 WHAC) in the contest. 

Freshman Olivia Norman led the way offensively with a match-high 14 kills on the night. Janel Ruhlman finished just behind Norman with 13 kills. Aline Marinelo added nine kills to her stat line. Aubrey Bates paced the play of SHU with 37 assists and 14 digs to complete a double-double. Payton Osborne led the defense with 18 digs while Kadie Carsten contributed with 10. 

Siena Heights started slowly in set one as the team surrendered a small 16-13 lead to Lawrence Tech. The Saints woke up from that point on and roared to a 12-0 run to take the opening set 25-16 for the 1-0 lead. 

A 4-0 start to set two saw SHU leading at the start of the second. The Blue Devils rallied back to take a 10-8 advantage before the score was knotted up again at 11. A 3-0 run pushed the Saints ahead 18-13 and they would never give up the lead again to take the 2-0 edge. 

The third set was competitive as the score was tied a total of 11 times up to a deadlock at 18. The home team tallied two points for every one-point surrendered to pull away 25-21 and secure the 3-0 win. 

Siena Heights held the advantage in every major statistical category including kills (49-30), assists (45-28), aces (4-1), digs (66-62), and blocks (5-1).
