LIMA, Ohio – The Siena Heights women's volleyball team defeated the University of Northwestern Ohio (UNOH) in straight sets (25-17, 25-17, 25-22) inside The Garage in Lima, Ohio. The Saints (5-1, 1-0) earn their fifth win of the season and begin Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play 1-0.
Janel Ruhlman was a force offensively as she led the attack with a team-high 12 kills and a .571 hitting percentage on the evening.
Kadie Carsten also hit the ball well with eight kills for a .412 percentage. She was also active on defense as she led with 14 digs.
Aubrey Bates paced the SHU offense with 27 assists on the night. Payton Osborne anchored the backline with 11 digs.
The Saints used a 6-0 run in the middle of the first set to pull ahead 13-8. Runs of three and four increased the advantage to 21-12 to give SHU the 1-0 lead after a 25-17 decision.
Siena Heights dominated set two as they built an 8-1 edge and never looked back. The offense crushed the ball in the second as the Saints hit a match-high .440 in the one-sided outcome.
The visitors jumped out to a quick 18-8 lead in the third. UNOH raced back into the game with three, 3-0 runs that pulled the deficit to just 21-23. Ruhlman tallied back-to-back kills to take the set and match in favor of the Saints.
