SHU Women’s Soccer Finished 4th in WHAC Preseason Coaches Poll

ADRIAN, Mich. – The Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) announced the 2022 WHAC Women's Soccer Preseason Coaches poll on Monday morning. The Siena Heights women's soccer team finished fourth in the standings with 106 points. The Saints finished 2021 in fourth place with 22 points and a league record of 7-3-1.

Led by senior Marissa Young, the Saints return five of the team's top scorer's from a season ago (Young, Sarah Ammon, Kennedy Hyde, Emily Broman, and Isabel Remar).

Young led the way with 15 goals for 30 points. The Genoa, Ohio native was a first-team All-WHAC and all-academic team selection in 2021. She also tied for the most game-winning goals in the NAIA with eight during her junior campaign.

Ammon was a member of the WHAC All-Newcomer squad in 2021. She started in 14 games as a freshman, finishing the season with 19 points off eight goals and three assists.

Hyde joined Ammon on the all-newcomer team last year. She was the team's leading playmaker with six assists while scoring four goals for 14 points. She started all 20 games a year ago.

Broman made 19 starts and recorded seven points with two goals and three assists, tying Remar with that exact scoring line for the fourth-most points on the team in 2021.

"It is always great to be considered as one of the top programs in our very competitive conference," said SHU head women's soccer coach Scott Oliver. "Our team always has goals to be at the top when the season finishes, and I think this group of young women are ready for that challenge."

The preseason poll is voted on by the coaches in the league who rank each team in the WHAC from 1-12. Twelve points are given to the team at the top of the list, 11 points to the second-ranked team, and so on to determine the order of the poll.

Last season's WHAC champion Aquinas topped the poll with 11 first-place votes and 141 points. Madonna fell to second place after receiving the final first-place vote totaling 127 points. UNOH was third with 124 points. The Saints were the last team in the poll to accumulate more than 100 points in fourth place. Lawrence Tech was fifth with 87 points. The Blue Devils edged out sixth-place Lourdes by two points. Concordia (Mich.) tallied 65 points for seventh while Cornerstone added 61 points for eighth. Indiana Tech was ninth with 52 points. Cleary (33 points), UM-Dearborn (29 points), and Rochester (26 points) rounded out the poll.
