ATLANTA – Siena Heights senior forward Peyton Banks added a second All-America award to her resume after the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) announced the 2021-22 National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) All-America Team this week.
Banks recorded 12 double-doubles for the 2021-22 season. The Wadsworth, Ohio native leads the WHAC with 18.3 PPG and 532 total points. She ranks second in free throw percentage with 87.5 and rebounds per game with 9.3. In addition, banks is 3rd in field goal percentage with 51.0. Banks adds this accomplishment to her list of awards, including CoSIDA Academic All-America® Second-Team, co-WHAC Player of the Year—her third consecutive league player of the year award—and first-team All-WHAC for the second-straight season.
"Peyton has been a major contributor to the success of our program since she arrived on campus," said SHU women's basketball coach Sue Syljebeck. "It's great to see Peyton's hard work has earned her such a prestigious award. This further proves she belongs amongst the best players in the country."
The Coaches' All-America team is selected by a committee of WBCA member coaches within the NAIA and consists of the ten best women's basketball players.
Banks made the WBCA All-America list—the first SHU player to be named All-America—after making the honorable mention list a year ago. Nicole Coffey (2003), Laura Panozzo (2006 & 2007), Grace Howrigon (2014), and Sierra Calhoun (2015) were the other SHU players to receive honorable mention. Banks is also the only women's basketball student-athlete from the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) on the WBCA All-America Team.
