Peyton Banks Earns Third Consecutive WHAC Player of the Year Award as WHAC Honors are Announced

ADRIAN, Mich. -- Siena Heights senior forward Peyton Banks earned her third consecutive Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Player of the Year Award as the league office released the women's basketball yearly award winners on Wednesday afternoon. For the first time since the inaugural year of competition, the player of the year award was shared. This season Banks shares the award with Emma Tuominen of Indiana Tech. Banks was also named to the first-team All-WHAC along with All-Academic. Sha'kyia Parker joined Banks on the first-team All-WHAC squad.

Alix Carter, Brooke Madak, Kelly McGrath, and Rebecca Zilka were all on the WHAC All-Academic list. Carter was also the SHU representative on the Champions of Character team.

Banks has recorded 12 double-doubles for the 2021-22 season. The Wadsworth, Ohio native leads the WHAC with 18.3 PPG and 532 total points. She ranks second in free throw percentage with 87.5 and rebounds per game with 9.3. Banks is 3rd in field goal percentage with 51.0. She was named the WHAC Player of the Week three times this season.

"Peyton continues to be a major contributor to the success of our program," said head coach Sue Syljebeck. "She leads the WHAC in scoring this season and continues to be one of the best shooters and rebounders in the league year in and year out. Her receiving the player of the year honor for three-straight seasons is a testament to all of her hard work."

Parker is second in the league in total points with 495 and third in the WHAC with 15.5 PPG. Her 76.5 percent free-throw shooting is sixth-best in the conference, and her 47 steals lead the SHU women's basketball team.

"Shaq has shown great improvement throughout her time on our team," stated Syljebeck. "She has grown into a consistent scoring threat that led to our success as a team this season."
