Dakota Spears Selected to Participate in WBCA ‘So You Want to be a Coach’ Program

ADRIAN, Mich. – Siena Heights senior Dakota Spears was accepted into the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) 'So You Want to be a Coach' program.

"I am so thankful for this opportunity to grow in my passion for coaching basketball," said Spears. "It is a huge accomplishment to be chosen for the 'So' program, and I know the amount of knowledge and connections will help me as I continue to pursue my passion."

This selective program assists female collegiate basketball players who are interested in pursuing a career in coaching by providing them with professional development and career advancement through education, skills enhancement, networking, and exposure opportunities.

The program has limited space each year and each participant is selected from those nominated by their head coach. Spears is just the fourth member of the SHU women's basketball program (Jen Hoffman, Jessie Arnold, and RaShawn Calvert are the other three) to be admitted into the program.

"Dakota has shown a real passion for the coaching profession while in our program," said SHU women's basketball head coach, Sue Syljebeck. "Her desire to learn and her work ethic will serve her well as she continues to develop her skills professionally."

The 'So' program will be conducted as part of the WBCA Convention that takes place annually during the NCAA Women's Final Four. This year's Final Four is scheduled for April 2, 2021.
