Banks Repeats as WHAC Player of the Year; Eight Others Receive WHAC Awards

Siena Heights junior forward Peyton Banks was chosen as the 2020-21 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Women's Basketball Player of the Year for the second consecutive year. Banks also took home a first-team All-WHAC selection and a place on the all-academic squad.

Joining Banks on the first-team All-WHAC was Kelsey Wyman. She was also on the All-Academic team. E'Anna Won was chosen to the WHAC All-Freshman team. Marcia Hawkins-Day, Brooke Madak, Shelby Morrow, Ashley Nicosia, and Dakota Spears were also on the All-Academic team. Morgan Leppelmeier was the SHU representative on the Champions of Character Team.

Banks had another fantastic season for the Saints. She finished atop the NAIA in free throw percentage with 93.1%. Her 17.5 points per game led the Saints. Her 44.2% three-point shooting and points per game were third-best in the WHAC. Her assists per game (1.95) were in the top-20 as well making her one of the most versatile players in the entire conference.

"Peyton is one of the most versatile players to ever come through our program," said head coach Sue Syljebeck. "She has been a major contributor on our team since her freshman year and her ability to play anywhere on the floor is a huge factor in why she has won two consecutive WHAC Player of the Year awards."

Wyman ranks top 15 in three-point shooting percentage with 45.3%. That mark leads the WHAC. She was the second-highest scorer on the Saints with 14.6 points per contest. She led SHU on the defensive end as well as she registered 10 blocks on the year.

"Kelsey has stepped in and made an impact for our team since joining us last year," coach Syljebeck stated. "She continued to work hard and improve upon what she did last year and continues to be a threat on both sides of the ball for us."

Won saw action in 19 games this season as a freshman and averaged 4.7 points per contest. Where she really contributed was her passing ability as she led the team with 2.94 assists per game.

"E'Anna has shown a tremendous work ethic and coachability since joining our program in the fall," said coach Syljebeck. "Her desire to be the best player she can be, has allowed her to continually improve her game and has led to her success this season."
