The Siena Heights women's basketball team received two first-place votes and finished with 92 points to claim the second spot in the 2020-21 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) coaches preseason poll that was released by the league office today (Oct. 14). The Saints finished last season with a 17-3 league record (2nd in WHAC standings) and a 27-6 overall record. The 27 wins on the season were enough for SHU to punch its ticket to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) tournament for the fifth time in program history.
The preseason poll is voted on by the coaches in the league who rank the teams in the league from 1-10. 10 points are given to the team at the top of the list, nine points to the second-ranked team, and so on to determine the order of the poll.
Defending WHAC champion Indiana Tech tops the poll this year with 98 points and eight of the 10 first-place votes. The Saints fall just under them with their 92 points. Aquinas and Concordia (Mich.) each tied for third with 67 points while Lawrence Tech falls to fifth with 66 points. Rochester totaled 52 points to claim the sixth spot and Lourdes was seventh with 39 points. UNOH finished with 31 points for eighth. Madonna (21 pts.) and Cornerstone (17 pts.) rounded out the pol.
The Saints are scheduled to begin the 2020-21 season on Monday, November 2 against Grace Christian. Game time has yet to be determined at this time.
