LIVONIA, Mich. -- The 20th-ranked Siena Heights women's basketball team dropped a 71-59 decision to 25th-ranked Madonna in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference action on Wednesday.
Sierra Calhoun led the Saints with 21 points while Mackenzie Tomasik compiled a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds. Also, Jessie Arnold contributed 10 points and eight rebounds.
Trailing 35-29 at halftime, Siena Heights (19-6, 13-4) opened the second half on an 11-point run -- getting seven points from Calhoun and four from Tomasik -- but Madonna immediately responded with a 13-0 charge and took the lead for good.
The Crusaders (15-8, 14-3) held a 48-40 advantage with 15 minutes left and kept SHU at bay for the remainder of the contest.
The Saints finished 25 of 67 from the field (37.3 percent) and 3 of 14 from three-point land (21.4 percent).
Madonna did not have a sizeable advantage from the field, finishing 24 of 61 (39.3 percent), but the host Crusaders did enjoy itself from three-point land with a 13-for-35 performance (37.1 percent).
The Saints will return to action on Saturday with 5:30 p.m. WHAC home contest against Marygrove.
