ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights softball team lost two games to WHAC opponent Cornerstone, 9-8 and 5-3, as both took eight innings to finish at Christensen Memorial Softball Field.
The Saints (17-21, 7-15) will play again on Thursday when they visit Lourdes for a 3:30 p.m. WHAC doubleheader.
Game one: Cornerstone 9, Siena Heights 8 (8 innings)
Faith Breinager, Lee Clinton, Shyann Truax and Lauren Dioszegi had two-hit games for the Saints.
Breinager, Clinton and Liberti Fair scored two runs each. Clinton tripled and doubles. Truax also had a double.
Truax pitched for SHU, giving up six earned runs on 10 hits while totaling three strikeouts and six walks.
Siena Heights took a 4-1 lead in the second inning, getting RBI singles from Breinager and Fair during the fram.each
Cornerstone pulled even at 4-4 in the fourth before SHU retook the lead on a Fair groundout in the bottom half.
The visiting Golden Eagles took a 7-5 lead before Siena Heights went ahead for the final time with a 3-run sixth.
Ellie Thelen drew a bases-loaded walk and then Truax hit a sacrifice fly to tie the game for SHU. Emma Fair made the score 8-7 with an RBI single.
The Eagles tghen tied the game with one run in the seventh and took the lead in the eighth with a single run.
Game two: Cornerstone 5, Siena Heights 3 (8 innings)
Clinton (triple) had two hits and an RBI. Truax doubled.
Cassie Kieper pitched for Siena Heights, allowing five runs on 12 hits while totaling one strikeout and three walks.
The Saints went ahead in the third inning on an RBI single by Clinton. A Cornerstone error followed as the Saints took a 2-0 edge.
After CU trimmed the margin to 2-1 in the fifth, an RBI groundout by Liberti Fair pushed SHU's advantage to 3-1.
Cornerstone tied the game on a two-run homer in the seventh inning and then scored two go-ahead runs in the eighth.
