GREENWOOD, Ind. -- The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced the members of the 2019 Google Cloud Academic All-District® Softball team on Thursday afternoon. Siena Heights seniors Ashley Helmink and Kayla Boland were selected to the NAIA District 1 team.
Helmink accumulated a 3.94 GPA and currently leads the Saints in At-Bats (166), Runs (62), Hits (77) doubles (25), triples (9), home runs (10), runs batted in (59), and batting average (.464) among hitters with more than 10 at-bats. She broke single-season records for runs, 2B, and 3B. She is currently tied for the single-season record in RBIs and is one HR from tying the single-season mark. The psychology major also has the second-most hits in a single season with at least two more games left to play.
Boland has a 4.0 GPA and is currently the fourth-best hitter on the team with 42 hits, three doubles, and a triple in 144 at-bats. She has scored 31 runs and has registered 30 RBIs on top of 16 stolen bases.
With their selection to the all-district team, both student-athletes advance to the national ballot for CoSIDA Academic All-America™ consideration. The Google Cloud CoSIDA Academic All-America™ softball team will be announced on Monday, June 3, 2019.
The CoSIDA Academic All-District® NAIA District 1 team features student-athletes from NAIA institutions in 22 different states and was voted on by Sports Information Directors in the region.
