TUCSON, Ariz. -- The Siena Heights softball team claimed two wins and suffered one loss, although that defeat was played under protest, to finish its trip to the Tucson Invitational Games with a 9-6 record on Sunday.
The Saints defeated Ashford (Iowa), 5-3, and Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.), 11-5. The loss came to Arizona Christian, 12-1, but due to a possible illegal substitution, that contest was finished under protest.
Against Ashford, Kelsie Abbott batted 2-for-4 while pitching for the win. In seven innings in the circle, she allowed three runs on 11 hits while recording seven strikeouts and one walk.
Taylor Heisler finished 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs and two RBI. Megan Jones added a 2-for-4 game with a double and two runs while Hannah Bleikamp went 2-for-4 with two RBI.
Abbott drove in the Saints' only run against Arizona Christian with an RBI double. Stephanie Tylicki was the losing pitcher; only four of the runs scored against her were earned.
SHU capped the trip with its 11-5 victory over Dakota Wesleyan.
Abbott pitched the win again, going the distance while allowing 11 hits. Of the five runs scored, only three were earned. She had three strikeouts and two walks.
Heisler finished 3-for-4 with a homer, double and four RBI.
Mariah Boss batted 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI while Kyndle Wolfinger went 3-for-3 with two RBI.
If the Arizona Christian result is overturned, it would only drop a loss from SHU's record and not add a win.
The Saints are currently scheduled to play their home-opening doubleheader against Indiana Wesleyan on Wednesday, however, field conditions must improve for that twinbill to occur.
