O'Hotzke Breaks Program Mark for Ks as Softball Falls Twice to Cornerstone

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Pitcher Katie O'Hotzke became the Siena Heights softball program's all-time strikeout leader despite losses of 2-1 and 8-0 to Cornerstone in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference competition on Saturday.

O'Hotzke was Siena Heights' pitcher of record in both games, totaling 10 innings pitched. In the two games, she allowed 10 runs on 12 hits while recording 13 strikeouts and three walks. Only six of the runs scored on O'Hotzke were earned.

O'Hotzke tied the record with 10 Ks in the 2-1 game-one loss.

Heidi Walburg connected for a two-run home run in the Cornerstone first inning -- a blast that put the Golden Eagles ahead for good.

Taylor Hayes smashed a solo homer for SHU in the fourth. She also doubled.

In the 8-0 five-inning nightcap, O'Hotzke set a new program mark with a first-inning strikeout. She had three punchouts on the game, bringing her career total to 408 -- three more than Shannon Bezeau, who had 405 strikeouts in 1993-96.

Siena Heights had only one hit in game two -- a single by Mariah Boss.

Jenna Weightman (double) batted 2-for-3 for Cornerstone and accumulated three runs, two RBI and two stolen bases. The Eagles scored twice in the first, four times in the second and twice more in the third.

Rachel Nelson earned the shutout for CU (14-10, 6-4). She had five strikeouts and two walks.

The Saints (15-13, 6-4) will be in action again on Sunday with a doubleheader at Davenport.
