Softball Struggles Continue, Drop Two Games at Adrian

The Siena Heights Softball Team dropped two games to cross town foe Adrian College by scores of 5-3 and 12-1.

In game one, the Saints fell behind 1-0 in the 2nd inning before tying the game in the 3rd.  In the bottom of the 3rd, Adrian responded with two runs and added a 4th run in the 4th inning.  In the top of the 6th SHU responded with two runs to creep to within one run before allowing a final Adrian run in the bottom of the 6th to see the final of 5-3.  SHU helped defeat themselves, committing two errors and tacking on five passed balls to give Adrian three unearned runs.

Katie O'Hotzke was the hard luck loser, allowing nine hits, seven of which never left the infield, allowing only two earned runs over six innings.  Kenya Keller had two hits, while Mariah Boss, Katie O'Hotzke, Taylor Hayes, Megan Jones, and Morgan Warfield each had individual hits.  O'Hotzke, Jones, and Warfield had the Saints' RBI with Jones' hit being a triple.

In game two the wheels fell off early for the Saints as four unearned runs plated in the first inning for Adrian setting the tone for what was to be a quick game for the Saints.  Warfield started and took the loss, allowing eight runs, only two earned runs in 1.1 innings of work.  Jenn Sylvester came in and threw one inning of relief before Hayes finished the final 1.2 innings striking out three.  The highlight of game two for the Saints was a homerun by Liz Polmanteer, her first of her career at any level.

With the losses, the Saints fall to 15-11 and will have to lick their wounds quickly as they return to action this weekend with WHAC games against the teams that finished first and second last year with Cornerstone and Davenport on Saturday and Sunday on the road.
