Softball Takes Two From Indiana Tech

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights softball team swept a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference doubleheader with 3-0 and 13-8 wins over Indiana Tech on Saturday at Christensen Memorial Field.

Katie O'Hotzke pitched a three-hit shutout to earn the win in game one. She recorded five strikeouts and four walks.

The Saints (13-7, 4-2) scored twice in the third inning and once in the sixth. Kenya Keller ripped an RBI triple and Taylor Hayes hit a sacrifice fly, helping SHU to a 2-0 lead.

Siena Heights added an insurance run in the sixth on an RBI single by Megan Jones.

Also for the Saints' offense, Liz Polmanteer batted 2-for-2, Keller stole a base, and Hayes and Morgan Warfield smacked doubles.

Patrice Suplicki batted 2-for-3 for the Warriors (4-13, 2-4). Losing pitcher Tori Simper allowed three runs on seven hits while finishing with one strikeout and two walks.

In game two, the Saints piled on 13 runs with 15 hits, including seven extra-base knocks.

O'Hotzke earned the save in the pitcher's circle. At the plate, she went 3-for-4 with three doubles, three RBI and two runs.

Also, Hayes (double) was 3-for-4 with four RBI. Mariah Boss went 3-for-4 with four runs and two RBI. Keller compiled a 2-for-5 game with two doubles, two runs, two RBI and one stolen base.

Tiffany Jones added a pinch-hit triple while Warfield and Ashley O'Leary scored two runs apiece.

After falling behind 1-0, the Saints scored three runs in the third. Keller and O'Hotzke smashed back-to-back RBI doubles to give SHU the lead. Hayes added an RBI single, putting the Saints ahead 3-1.

Indiana Tech came back with two in the fourth, but then the Saints tallied five runs in their half of the frame and led the rest of the way. Boss had an RBI single, O'Hotzke hammered a two-run double, and Hayes ripped a run-scoring double during the inning.

The Warriors closed the gap to 8-7 in the fifth, but once again, the Saints had an answer.

Hayes had a two-run single in the SHU fifth. Then, Jones had her run-scoring triple in the sixth. Boss added an RBI single and Keller followed with an RBI double, helping Siena Heights to a 13-7 lead.

Indiana Tech scored the game's final run in the seventh.

Warfield was the winning pitcher. She pitched 4 1/3 innings, allowing six runs (five earned) on seven hits while recording two strikeouts.

O'Hotzke worked the final 2 2/3 frames and was hit up for two runs (one earned) on five hits. She had three strikeouts.

Jenevie Rivas was the losing pitcher for Tech. Juliaclare Plezbert (triple) had three hits, three runs and one RBI. Jessica Cotton (two doubles) added three hits, three runs and one RBI.

The Saints will return to action on Sunday with a home WHAC doubleheader against Northwestern Ohio, beginning at 1 p.m.
