TUCSON, Ariz. -- The Siena Heights softball team dropped a 7-0 decision to Great Falls (Mont.) before rebounding for an 8-0 five-inning victory against Bethel (Ind.) at the Tucson Invitational Games on Saturday.
In the win over Bethel, Taylor Hayes batted 3-for-4 with two RBI while winning pitcher Katie O'Hotzke tossed five shutout innings.
O'Hotzke and Tiffany Jones (double) added 2-for-3 games. Megan Jones also doubled for the Saints (4-4). Mariah Boss scored two runs.
SHU took the lead for good on a first-inning RBI single by Hayes. The Saints later added four runs in the third as O'Hotzke scored via wild pitch, Megan Jones delivered a two-run double, and Tiffany Jones smacked an RBI single.
O'Hotzke ripped an RBI double in the Siena Heights fourth. Kenya Keller and Hayes had RBI singles in the fifth with Hayes' hit ending the game by way of the eight-run rule.
O'Hotzke allowed four hits in the game while recording three strikeouts and two walks.
During the 7-0 loss to Great Falls, Boss batted 2-for-3 and stole a base. Hayes doubled.
O'Hotzke was the losing pitcher, allowing five runs (four earned) on nine hits while compiling four strikeouts and one walk.
The Saints will return to action on Thursday with games against Viterbo (Wis.) and Northwestern (Iowa).
