TUCSON, Ariz. -- The Siena Heights softball team won two of three games on Sunday, dropping a 2-1 decision to Ashford (Iowa) before claiming 3-2 and 4-2 wins over Arizona Christian at the Tucson Invitational Games.
SHU pitcher Katie O'Hotzke was the pitcher of record for all three games, finishing with 16 innings pitched, 14 strikeouts and five walks.
In the loss to Ashford, the Saints trailed 2-0 in the seventh inning and rallied for one run before falling short.
Bitty Treece doubled in the final frame. Sam Bellovary drove in the lone run via fielder's choice.
O'Hotzke allowed two runs on six hits while recording four strikeouts and three walks.
During the 3-2 win against Arizona Christian, Ashley O'Leary plated the go-ahead run with a seventh-inning sacrifice fly. Kenya Keller and Mariah Boss had set the stage for O'Leary with walks before moving up one base each on a wild pitch; Keller scored on the flyout.
O'Hotzke ripped a two-run single to put the Saints up 2-0 in the first inning. AC answered with single runs in the first and second frames.
Taylor Hayes started in the pitcher's circle, working the first four frames. She gave up two runs on seven hits before O'Hotzke tossed three scoreless innings. O'Hotzke gave up two hits while recording five strikeouts and one walk.
The Saints (2-2) jumped ahead with a three-run first inning in the 4-2 nightcap. Treece smashed a two-run double and Bellovary provided a sac fly.
Treece later tacked on a run-scoring single in the third, giving SHU a four-run lead. Arizona Christian scored twice during the fourth, but could not pull any closer.
Boss had a pair of singles, O'Leary tripled and Megan Jones doubled for the Saints.
O'Hotzke gave up two runs on five hits while finishing with five strikeouts and one walk.
The Saints will return to action on Monday with games against Northwestern (Iowa) and Judson (Ill.).
