Siena Heights All-Decade Series: Men’s Cross Country

ADRIAN, MICH. – The Siena Heights Athletics Department will be announcing an all-decade team for every SHU athletic team to finish out the year 2020. Each all-decade squad will feature a starting lineup consisting of the best athletes at each position from the past 10 seasons. 

This edition features the Siena Heights men's cross country all-decade team. The team consists of Jesiah Rodriguez, Esrom Woldemichael, David Weeks, Justin Bateson, Liam Heaney, Zach Widner, Brett Smith, Kyle Smith, and Liam Hartsuff. 

The honorable mentions for the All-Decade team are Zach Phillips, Anthony Vermilye, Mike Glinski, Stephan Merchant, and Jareb Duggan. 

The team consists of nine first-team All-WHAC awards, two second-team All-WHAC honors, and one NAIA All-America distinction. 

Jesiah Rodriguez – Rodriguez is the only member of the all-decade team to earn an NAIA All-America award, which he won in 2011. He is a three-time All-WHAC first-team selection and was also a runner of the week twice (2010, 2011) and was a member of both a WHAC championship team and a national team qualifier. 

Esrom Woldemichael – Woldemichael was the WHAC runner of the week in three different seasons (2016, 2017, 2018). He also earned a first-team All-WHAC award in 2016 and competed at the NAIA National Championships in 2017. 

David Weeks – Weeks won All-WHAC first-team honors twice (2010, 2011). In 2011, he was a WHAC runner of the week and was the SHU representative on the Champions of Character team. He was also a member of a WHAC championship and national team qualifier. 

Justin Bateson – Bateson earned both first team (2010) and second-team (2011) All-WHAC selection during his career. In 2012 he was an All-WHAC honorable mention and made the all-academic team. He joined Rodriguez and Weeks as a member of a WHAC championship team and a national team qualifier. 

Liam Heaney  Heaney was a member of the All-WHAC first team during the 2019 season as well as a selection to the all-academic squad. He earned runner of the week during the same season as well. During his career, he was also a national team qualifier.  

Zach Widner  Widner was the runner of the week twice during the 2012 season and was the Saints pick to represent SHU on the WHAC Champions of Character team. He added a national team qualifier to his resume. 

Brett Smith  Smith was an All-WHAC honorable mention in 2013. The year prior (2012) he earned a place on the WHAC All-Academic team. He was another national team qualifier for the Saints in the past decade. 

Kyle Smith – Smith was the SHU Saint selected to the WHAC Champions of Character team in the 2010 season. He was another member of a WHAC championship team and a national team qualifier. 

Liam Hartsuff Hartsuff was a member of the All-WHAC second team in the 2019 season. He was a national team qualifier once so far in his career.
