ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) announced the 2022 WHAC Men's Volleyball Preseason Coaches Poll on Wednesday afternoon. The Siena Heights men's volleyball squad was chosen to finish fourth in the poll--the exact spot where they finished in the standings last season.
The Saints return 2021 WHAC Libero of the Year, Joudiel Poveymirow, and first-team All-WHAC selection Shevin Blades. Upperclassman leadership also returns with fifth-year seniors Alex Garavalia and Jack Pranckus. In addition, freshman setter Zak Tucker and senior transfer Ramon Matos should fill some holes in the lineup and add depth to the roster.
"A number of WHAC schools will be nationally ranked when the dust settles," said second-year SHU head coach Chris McKim. "This is by far the deepest and most competitive WHAC to date. It is great for our conference. We expect tough competition every week from every team and look forward to the opportunity to compete for a WHAC Championship."
The preseason poll is voted on by the coaches in the league who rank each team in the WHAC from 1-8. Eight points are given to the team at the top of the list, seven points to the second-ranked team, and so on to determine the order of the poll.
Reigning WHAC champion Lourdes topped the poll after finishing with 63 points and seven of the eight first-place votes. Last year's runner-up, Indiana Tech, was granted one first-place vote for 50 points and the second spot. Aquinas finished with 42 points to edge out fourth-place Siena Heights with 40 points. Mount Vernon Nazarene finished four points ahead of Goshen (32 points) to take fifth place. Cornerstone (16 points) and Lawrence Tech (9 points) rounded out the poll.
