Siena Heights junior Joudiel Poveymirow and senior Keegan Crawford took home two of the biggest annual honors that the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) awards. Poveymirow was chosen as the WHAC libero of the year and Crawford the setter of the year. These awards accompany being named first-team All-WHAC as well.
Joining Poveymirow and Crawford on the All-WHAC first team was junior Shevin Blades. Sophomore Nathan Lee was the Saints representative on the WHAC Champions of Character team.
"We are proud to have three First-Team All-Conference players this year," said head coach Chris McKim. "All three players had remarkable seasons and contributed immensely to our success. While the individual recognition is deserving, we also look at these awards as team accomplishments."
Poveymirow has had a fantastic debut season for the Saints this year. He leads both the WHAC and the NAIA in digs per game with 4.52. He also leads the WHAC in total digs with 271, a mark that is fourth in the NAIA. Those numbers are a large factor in Siena Heights leading the country in digs per game as a team with 12.21.
"Jo has established a new standard for the libero position and set national records in the statistical category of dig per set," stated coach McKim. "I am so happy for Jo and find myself in constant amazement of the talent he brings to the floor each day."
Crawford leads the WHAC in assists per game (10.3) and is second in the league in assists (649). Both of those marks fall in the top-15 in the NAIA with the assists per game falling sixth and the total assists 11th. The Columbus, Ohio native also hit a career milestone by achieving 4,000 assists during his time in a Saints uniform. Crawford hit that mark during the final game of the regular season.
"Keegan not only puts up some of the highest assists per set each match but is perhaps the most well-rounded setter in the NAIA when you look at other statistical categories like digs and aces," said coach McKim. "Keegan has been a cornerstone of the Saints program for five years and he is leaving big shoes to fill."
Blades had a career year as a junior. He is an integral part of the Saints' presence at the net. He is leading the WHAC in hitting percentage (.381) this year. That mark is also ranked 20th in the NAIA. He is in the top-10 in the conference in total blocks (8th, 46) and blocks per set (10th, 0.8).
