ADRIAN, Mich. -- Siena Heights freshman Matthew Gipple was named the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) men's field athlete of the week this afternoon when the league office announced the weekly award winners.
Gipple won the long jump with an A-Standard mark of 7.14m at the Saginaw Valley State University Invitational on Friday. The mark is seventh-best in the NAIA and is just .01m behind his career-high mark of 7.15m that currently ranks fifth in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).
This is the third WHAC weekly award for Gipple in his career--all came this season. It is the second field athlete of the week award. His first WHAC award this season was as the track athlete of the week.
The Saints are scheduled to compete again this weekend at the Coach Flamino Classic in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
