Siena Heights freshman Matthew Gipple was named the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) men's track athlete of the week when the league office announced the weekly award winners on Monday afternoon.
Gipple had a fantastic 2021-22 debut as he won the 60-meter run and long jump at the Saginaw Valley State Holiday Open and Multis. Gipple's time of 6.89 in the 60-meter run was an A-Standard, while his winning long jump of 7.09m was a B-Standard. Gipple also was a part of the men's 4x400 relay team that finished second with a time of 3:24.68.
This is the first athlete of the week award for Gipple in his career, and it is also the first weekly award for the Saints men's track and field squad this season.
Gipple and the rest of the Saints will compete again on January 14 at Saginaw Valley State.
