ADRIAN, Mich. – The Siena Heights men's soccer team kicks off its season tomorrow on the road against Huntington. The Saints look to improve their position in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) standings from the shortened season last year.
Siena Heights was chosen eighth in the 2021 WHAC Men's Soccer Preseason Coaches Poll that was released earlier this month.
LAST SEASON
The Saints finished 2020 with a 3-7-1 record and were six seed in the WHAC Tournament. Unfortunately, the season was cut short and the team was unable to play in the tournament due to COVID protocols.
THE SEASON
The team is scheduled for a 16-game regular season that will begin tomorrow, Tuesday, August 24 on the road against Huntington. The first four games are all road contests before the Saints debut at home against Taylor on Wednesday, September 15 at 7:00 p.m.
The WHAC season begins on Saturday, September 25 when Siena Heights hosts Lourdes at 7:00 p.m. SHU will host six home games during the 2021 regular season. THE TEAM
The Saints leading scorer for the past two seasons, Gustavo Barros (Sr./Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul) returns to the team this season. Barros finished last season with 12 points (six goals) to lead the team in both of those categories. 2020 WHAC All-Newcomer Marcelo Rocha (Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul) also returns from a successful freshman campaign. Rocha played in all 11 games for the team a season ago.
THE COACHING STAFF
Drew Crawford begins his fourth season as the head coach of the Saints men's soccer team. He is 16-29-3 in his first three seasons at the helm. Ted Hanosh (2nd Season) returns as assistant coach while recent graduate, Andrew Kozan joins the staff as the graduate assistant.
