Upcoming for Saints Men's Soccer: After a couple of month's stint the Saints kick off their 2021 spring slate this week with two home conference games on Wednesday against Aquinas and on Saturday against Lawerence Tech.
Head Coach: Drew Crawford enters his third season as the Saints' head coach. He was an assistant coach for the Siena Heights women's soccer program for six seasons (2012-2017), bringing 27 years of coaching experience to the squad. As head coach, he has earned a 13-22-2 overall record and a 7-13-2 conference record. In 2018 the Saints finished 7th in the WHAC and in 2019 they finished 8th.
At Home: The Saints are 1-2 in home games on the season. They lost games against Indiana Tech (3-0) and Concordia (2-0) during their fall schedule. Their lone win was against Lourdes (2-1).
Spring Outlook: The Saints will have a condensed schedule consisting of seven games, which are all WHAC conference games. The bulk of their spring schedule is in the month of March with six of their seven games. The first four games in March will be on home turf against Aquinas, Lawrence Tech, Cleary, and Michigan-Dearborn. Then the Saints will hit the road for their remaining two games in March against Madonna and Rochester. Siena will round out the schedule with an away game against UNOH in the first week of April.
Spectator Policy: Family members of SHU Student-athletes and a limited number of the Siena Heights community will be allowed to attend SHU Athletic home events held within the stadium. Siena Heights University athletics and the Department of Safety will make a determination the day before all contests held at the stadium on whether the stands are safe for spectators to attend. No visiting spectators will be allowed to attend an event on the SHU campus at this time.
Fall Recap: Indiana Tech 3, Siena Heights 0
Maxwell Amoako put the Warriors on the board first with a header goal off a corner kick. Two minutes later, Amoako struck again as he netted a header off a corner kick to put Tech in the lead 2-0. Ryan Steele found the back of the net to put the Warriors up by three goals with 15 minutes left in the first half. Tech held Siena to only one shot for the entirety of the game.
Siena Heights 2, Lourdes 1
Brendon Long had a header that found the back of the net off a corner kick to give Lourdes the 1-0 lead. Gustavo Barros took the free-kick and slotted it past Ali Chokr to tie the game 1-1. Remy Collard scored the game-winning goal for Siena Heights.
Concordia 2, Siena Heights 0
The Cardinals earned a penalty shot off a Saint yellow card that was in the box and Brett Kuhlman found the back of the net to give them the 1-0 lead. Concordia increased their lead 2-0 as Jordan Whitt took a shot but Kozan made the deflecting save and Nyle Ellis found the back of the net off the rebound
Cornerstone 1, Siena Heights 0
The first half was a scoreless deadlock as both teams had a few scoring opportunities but neither was able to find the back of the net. The Golden Eagles broke the tie in the 61st minute of the game off a crossed ball into the top of the box from Roberto Razo that allowed Allan Barrientos to beat Kozan across the goal.
Series History: Aquinas holds the all-time record against Siena 13-7-1. Aquinas is currently on a two-game losing streak against Siena. The last time the two teams met was on October 30th, 2019 and they lost 2-0. This will be the first time the teams go up against each other this season.
Lawrence Tech: This will be the first time the Saints and Blue Devils face each other this season. The last time the two teams met was during the 2019 season on October 23rd as the Saints lost 4-1 on the road.
Scouting Reports: Aquinas: Steffano Riley leads the Saints with 6 points, three goals, and one game-winning goal. Jackson Moore leads the team in assists with two. Theo Maye had a team-high of nine shots and four shots on goal.
Lawrence Tech: Kean Lam leads the Blue Devils in goals with seven, 14 points, and 13 shots. Juan Jaramillo leads the team in assists with four. Riley Alexander has a team-high of 16 saves, 10 goals against, and a .615 save percentage.
Siena Heights: Gustavo Barros and Remy Collard each have one goal for the Saints and Collard has one game-winning goal. Barros and Collard respectively lead the team in points with two. Barros leads the team with six shots and three shots on goal. Andrew Kozan has 26 saves, a save percentage of .788 and a record of 1-3.
