ADRIAN, Mich. – The Siena Heights men's lacrosse team starts the 2022 regular season in a neutral-site game Friday, February 18, against RV Webber International in Indianapolis, Indiana. The opening face-off of the contest is scheduled for 2:00 p.m., EST. The Saints are looking to improve their position in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) after the most recent finish of fourth in the 2019 season.
SHU was selected to finish fourth in the 2022 WHAC Men's Lacrosse Preseason Coaches Poll—the same spot they finished in 2019. In addition, Siena Heights is also receiving votes in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) preseason poll.
LAST SEASON
The Saints finished the 2021 season with a 3-2 overall record. However, due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, Siena Heights did not play any WHAC games during the past two seasons. As a result, Siena Heights, men's lacrosse, has played just seven games in the past two years, achieving a 3-4 record during that time.
2022 SEASON
The team is excited to have a full slate of 14 games scheduled for 2022, starting with the neutral site game against RV Webber International. SHU will play half of its season before debuting at home on Saturday, April 2, against WHAC opponent Taylor at noon. In addition, the Saints have four home games—all of which are in April. Home matches will be streamed on the SHU Saints YouTube page. Links for the video feed, live stats, and tickets for these contests can be found on the team's schedule page.
WHAC play begins on Saturday, March 26, on the road against Cleary at 7:00 p.m., EST.
THE TEAM
The Saints return 2019 first-team All-WHAC selection Jake Gallaher and 2021 second-team All-WHAC player Jeff Putz. Seniors Vinnie Jean and Garnet Potter also return for SHU this season. The Saints have 21 players returning from last year's team while adding 15 newcomers to the roster, including standout freshmen Ethan Wissink and Matt Quillen.
COACHING STAFF
The Spencer Macek era begins after spending one season as the interim head coach. Macek has been a staple of the SHU men's lacrosse program as a player, graduate assistant coach, assistant coach, and head coach. Tyler Hooper and Kevin Kennedy will assist coach Macek again this season.
