Siena Heights Athletics Mourns the Passing of Ed Maloney

ADRIAN, Mich. – The Siena Heights University Athletic department was saddened to learn of the passing of recently retired men's lacrosse coach Ed Maloney on Tuesday morning.

Maloney started the Saint men's lacrosse program from scratch in 2010. During his tenure, he built a culture of consistency and winning. He led the program to four consecutive CCLA Tournaments from 2013-16 and two CCLA Division titles in 2015 and 2016. In addition, the team earned two berths in the MCLA Tournament in 2015 and 2016.

Coach Maloney was also instrumental in men's lacrosse in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC). Once the Saints arrived in the WHAC, they appeared in four of the first six WHAC Tournaments (2014, 2016, 2018, and 2019) while also qualifying for the NAIA Tournament twice (2016 & 2018).

Maloney was named coach of the year in the CCLA, MCLA, and the WHAC in 2015. He coached five MCLA All-Americans, WHAC Defensive Player of the Year, 14 All-CCLA players, 21 All-WHAC selections, and 27 WHAC All-Academic earners.

The funeral service is planned for 1 p.m., Saturday, June 19, in St. Dominic Chapel. Father Tom Helfrich will preside.
