Jeff Putz Earns All-WHAC Second Team; Four Others Honored With Yearly Awards

Siena Heights junior defenseman Jeff Putz was named second-team All-WHAC when the league office announced the yearly awards on Wednesday afternoon.

Putz had a great season with the Saints. He lead the Saints with 47 ground balls on the season. He was also the primary faceoff taker winning 63 of 96 faceoffs for a team-high .656 winning percentage. His best performance of the year came in the 17-8 win over No. 6 Concordia (Mich.) where he hauled in a school-record 14 ground balls in the game. He also won 21 faceoffs (.778) to contribute to the victory.

"Jeff is the kind of player every coach hopes for," said interim head coach Spencer Macek. "He has put in the work on and off the field to earn this award. He is always the first person on the field and the last person off. Jeff really sets the tone for the rest of the guys in terms of competition level. Jeff is the heartbeat of this team, the work he puts in is selfless. His receiving of this award is the final product of the hard work that he has put in for himself and for his teammates."

Alex McCarthy was the SHU representative on the WHAC Champions of Character squad. Alec Emerson, Jake Gallaher, and Garrett Weaver earned a spot on the all-academic team.
