Siena Heights men's lacrosse athletes Danny Orr and Michael Birt III were named Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference First Team while four other Saints earned Second Team honors, as announced by the league recently. Four Saints were also named to the All-WHAC Academic Team.
Senior midfielder Orr led the Saints with 30 goals and three assists for a total of 33 points for SHU, playing in 14 games this season. Senior Birt III ranked second on the team with 20 caused turnover and 38 groundballs as a long stick midfielder. This is the first conference honor for Birt III while Orr managed All-CCLA Honorable-Mention his freshman year, 2015.
Seniors Shane Lewandowski and Tyler Hooper were both named All-WHAC Second Team, along with junior Nolan Mince and sophomore Parker Richards. Lewandowski holds 29 goals and 11 assists for the Saints as an attackman, playing in 11 games due to injury. Goalie Hooper holds a 10-1 record, making 142 saves to earn a save percentage of .550. Mince is a defender who has been a solid defender all season, starting all 15 contests while managing 17 caused turnovers and 20 groundballs. Defensive midfielder Richards has two goals and an assist while leading SHU with 42 groundballs and 10 caused turnovers.
First time all-academic award winners is Mince and senior Sam Lehouiller. Second time honorees include seniors Derek Martin and Patrick Albrandt. In order to be nominated for the award, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.25 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status.
Senior Broderick Ames was the Siena Heights WHAC Champions of Character recipient.
SHU will continue their season at the 2018 NAIA Men's Lacrosse National Invitational.
