The 14th-seeded Siena Heights men's lacrosse team will meet three-seed Missouri Valley in the opening round of the 16-team MCLA Division II Tournament, which will take place at Chapman Stadium in Orange, Calif. The Saints' matchup with the Vikings will occur on Monday, May 11, at 4:45 p.m. EST (1:45 p.m. PST).
SHU (12-2), which won the Central Collegiate Lacrosse Association Central Division championship, qualified for its first-ever national tournament via the at-large route. The Saints are among four CCLA teams in the field (Grand Valley State, Grove City and Dayton).
Siena Heights was the two-seed in the CCLA Tournament, defeating seven-seed Lourdes (Ohio), 12-10, in the quarterfinals before falling to three-seed Dayton, 10-8.
The Saints boast three All-CCLA First Team performers, including the CCLA Defensive Player of the Year, goaltender Ryan Mailloux. Defender Joshua Abruzzo and midfielder Tom Kreitzer were also named All-CCLA First Team.
Missouri Valley (11-1), which won its second consecutive Great Rivers Lacrosse Conference Tournament championship, is headed to Nationals for the second straight year.
