ADRIAN, Mich. -- Robert Kowalenko and Nick Zanotti shot school-record 69s while the Siena Heights men's golf team tied the program record for low round -- a 292 -- as the Saints placed first at the third Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference jamboree, which took place Saturday at 6,289-yard, par-71 Lenawee Country Club. A total of 65 golfers from 11 schools competed.
Kowalenko and Zanotti tied for medalist honors while breaking the previous record of 70, which was held by four previous SHU golfers (Adam Schmaltz, 2012; Bobby Plumer, 2004; Paul Newhouse, 2003; Bryan Haase, 2002).
The tied team record of 292 was previously set in 2004.
Also scoring for the Saints, Joe Forest tied for 10th with a 76 and Nick Sanscrainte tied for 21st with a 78. Matthew Grybel had a 78 to tie for 21st as an individual.
Siena Heights placed first in the team competition with a 292, followed in in the top three by Davenport (300) and Indiana Tech (305).
The Saints also slid into second place in the WHAC standings. The WHAC standings, through three events, are as follows: Davenport (901), Siena Heights (909), Indiana Tech (918), Madonna (921), Northwestern Ohio (932), Lawrence Tech (938), Lourdes (946), Cornerstone (974), Aquinas (1,040), Concordia (inc.) and Marygrove (inc.).
SHU will return to competition at Trine's Ken Venturi Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 4.
