ADRIAN, Mich. -- George Goodman scored 11 points while Christian Covile and Jerrell Martin grabbed 10 rebounds apiece during the Siena Heights men's basketball team's 63-52 loss to Taylor (Ind.) in non-conference action at the SHU Fieldhouse on Tuesday.
The Saints (6-8) struggled in the first half, making 2 of 25 shots from the field, and failed to overcome their 11-point halftime deficit.
After shooting 8.0 percent in the first, SHU followed up with a 15-of-29 second half (51.7 percent). The hosts went a stretch of 16 minutes and 30 seconds without a field goal.
The visiting Trojans (9-6) took the lead with a 10-point run in the first, getting five points from Tyler Waite during the stretch. Siena Heights missed its last 17 field-goal attempts in the opening period, but shot 10 of 12 from the free-throw stripe to keep itself in the contest.
A Covile layup closed SHU's deficit to 36-28 with 14:14 left in the game, but that is as close as the Saints would get. Waite's dunk with 5:03 remaining gave Taylor its largest lead at 56-41.
Kyle Stidom was TU's leading scorer, finishing with 23 points and six rebounds. Waite contributed 17 points, eight rebounds and five steals, Jesse Coffey scored 12 points and Jordan Richardson grabbed seven boards.
The Saints will be in action next on Saturday with a 7:30 p.m. Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference contest against Aquinas.
