Rough Stretch Results in SHU Loss to Spring Arbor

ADRIAN, Mich. -- Christian Covile led the Siena Heights men's basketball team with 26 points and nine rebounds, but the Saints fell to Spring Arbor, 68-64, in non-conference action on Tuesday.

Jamison Webster added 14 points and Malachi Satterlee hauled down nine rebounds for the Saints (6-10).

SHU traded early five-point runs with the visiting Cougars (6-9) before scoring 11 consecutive points to take a 16-5 lead.

After that, Spring Arbor answered with a 13-2 stretch itself, including a pair of 3-pointers from leading scorer Rob Hogans. That outburst began a period in which the Cougars outscored Siena Heights, 43-20, to grab their largest lead at 48-36.

The Saints trailed at halftime, 30-28, and never led during the second half. Spring Arbor broke a 36-all tie with 12 straight points, including five from Hogans and five from Peter Barry.

Siena Heights closed its deficit to 67-64 with six seconds left on a 3-pointer by Eric Cogan, but was never granted an opportunity to tie the game. SAU's Greg Hamilton iced the game, making 1 of 2 free throws with five seconds on the clock.

Hogans had 19 points, six steals and five rebounds to lead the Spring Arbor effort. Xavier Prather, Thomas Starks and Hamilton contributed 14, 11 and 10 points, respectively, while Caleb Hogans grabbed six boards.

Siena Heights will be in action next when it meets NCAA Division I opponent Western Michigan in a 7 p.m. exhibition game on Thursday. The Saints' next official game will take place on Saturday when they host Madonna for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off.
