SHU Men Struggle Against Racers

ADRIAN, Mich. -- Christian Covile led the Siena Heights effort on Saturday, finishing with 17 points and nine rebounds, but the Saints' men's basketball team's comeback bid fell short in its 66-58 loss to Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference opponent Northwestern Ohio on Saturday at the SHU Fieldhouse.

Jamison Webster and Stone Beckwith added 14 and 10 points, respectively. As a team, the Saints (3-5, 1-2) struggled from the field, making 19 of 58 shots (32.8 percent).

SHU led only once -- 2-0 -- after a game-opening basket by Webster. Later in the first, UNOH went on a 14-4 stretch, taking the lead for good.

Siena Heights had a 12-3 charge of its own to close out the first, getting five points apiece from Beckwith and Webster, to pull within 37-32.

The Racers (4-3, 2-1) twice led by 12 during the second half, but had to hold off a late Siena Heights run. The hosts put in seven consecutive points, closing their gap to 62-58, but failed to score after that.

While SHU went 0 of 2 from the lone and 0 of 1 from the field, the Racers made 4 of 5 free throws to seal the contest.

UNOH was led by Ed Jenkins, who finished with 20 points, and Derrick Tate, who had 16 points and nine rebounds. Kermeriaz Harrington added seven boards for the Racers.

Siena Heights (3-6, 1-2) will return to action on Tuesday with a 7:30 p.m. non-conference game against cross-town rival Adrian.
