A total of nine Siena Heights football players were honored on the Academic All-Mid States Football Association Team. All nine were also recently named Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes.
The group included one senior, defensive back Sederick A. Dunbar II, and eight juniors: wide receivers Jacob Bultema, Drew Milligan and Larry Trice III; offensive linemen Jake Helsel and Paul Jacobs; defensive back Lucas Bartz; linebacker Trenton Bragg; and tight end Lyle Van Fleteren.
Dunbar is now a two-time NAIA Scholar-Athlete, two-time Academic All-MSFA mention and two-time Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District honoree. A criminal justice major, he was also named to the 2013 CoSIDA Academic All-America Team. He is the Saints' only repeat NAIA Scholar-Athlete and was an All-Mid-States Football Association Mideast League Honorable Mention in 2012.
Bartz, Milligan and Trice are accounting majors. Milligan has previously been honored twice as a CoSIDA Academic All-District recipient.
Bragg, a two-time All-MSFA Mideast Honorable Mention, is a sport management major. He was also honored on the 2013 CoSIDA Academic All-District Team.
Helsel, who was named to the All-MSFA Mideast Second Team in 2013, is a biology major. He is a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-District honoree.
Jacobs, an education major, was named CoSIDA Academic All-District a year ago. Bultema also is an education major.
VanFleteren is a triple-major in biology, chemistry and mathematics. He has also garnered CoSIDA Academic All-District awards in 2012 and 2013.
