GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Siena Heights competitive cheer team placed second at the WHAC Championships, which took place Saturday at Aquinas.
The Saints finished with a score of 84.67 after scoring an 83.77 in preliminaries and then an 84.97 during finals.
SHU finished behind champion Lourdes (86.41) and bested perennial conference powerhouse Concordia (84.59) for the first time in program history.
Siena Heights trailed Lourdes after prelims as the Gray Wolves opened with an 84.63 and the Cardinals had an 83.77.
During finals, SHU moved past Concordia, which had an 84.85 in the finals while Lourdes held first with a final-round 87.00.
"This team continues to amaze me," said Saints coach Liz Teague. "They set goals and work together to accomplish them. We have had a phenomenal season with many firsts. It has been an emotional year as these athletes strive to be the best. I cannot express my gratitude enough for the love that I have for this team."
All-WHAC honorees were also named at the WHAC Championships; SHU had one honored on the First Team and four on the Second Team.
That quintet included First Team cheerleader Haylee Smith and Second Team performers Glenn Doss, Sav Rambow, Jenah Hamlin and Lucy Foy.
Academic All-WHAC selections were Hamlin, Bobby Lindsey, Emily Bayes, Glenn Doss, Jerzie Robinson, Logan Parks and Zoey Marshall.
Lindsey was also named to the WHAC Champions of Character Team.
