Angie Heath Announces Resignation as Head Cheer and Dance Coach

ADRIAN, Mich. – Siena Heights head cheer and dance coach Angie Heath announced her resignation from her position effective on November 13, 2021. Coach Heath has been the only coach for both programs since their start in 2012.

"Angie has been a great ambassador for Siena Heights athletics," said Director of Athletics Sue Syljebeck. "She started both programs from scratch and built a successful foundation for our cheer and dance teams since she arrived on our campus. She not only has worked hard for her program, but she has been a great team player and worked hard for the University. While I am sorry to be losing a great member of our staff, I am happy for her next chapter."

During her tenure, Heath's success has led to three first-team NAIA All-America selections in dance and one in cheer. In addition, she has coached seven NAIA All-America honorable mentions in dance and one in cheer. Heath was named the NAIA Dance Coach of the Year in 2018. She molded 2017 Cheerleader of the year Kourtney Ouellete while leading many others toward first and second-team All-WHAC and academic awards in both sports.

The cheer squad has qualified for the NAIA National Tournament twice in program history under Heath with 11th and 12th-place showings. The Saints also boast two top-five finishes in the CANAM National Championships. The dance team qualified for the NAIA National Tournament six times and had finishes of fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth. The team won the CANAM National Championship in 2017 and was a runner-up another year.

Heath was also a prominent figure nationally in the sports of cheer and dance. She served on the NAIA National Committee for cheer and was the NAIA Dance Executive Committee president from 2018 to 2020.

"My time at Siena heights has been better than I could have ever imagined," said Heath. "To have seen both the cheer team and the dance team develop into top-notch sports with many national appearances was beyond my wildest dreams when I came to Siena 9 1/2 years ago. I will forever cherish the relationships with my colleagues, students, and alumni and will forever be a SAINT!"

Coach Heath accepted a job as the Executive Director/Lead Teacher for Adrian Community Preschool serving low-income children in our community.

"I prayed about this decision for many weeks and felt that God was leading me back to my roots in Early Childhood Education."

A national search for a new cheer and dance coach has started and will continue until the position is filled.
