The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has announced the 2021 Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athletes and NAIA Scholar Team awards. The Siena Heights Competitive Cheer Program had four student-athletes and their 2020-2021 team earn these distinctions.
In order to be nominated for the NAIA Scholar-Athlete, an individual must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale, must appear on the eligibility certificate for the sport, and have attended two full years as a non-transfer or one full year as a transfer.
For a team to be awarded, they must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale for the academic year.
Earning the award for the Saints was:
Alexia Ferguson (1st time), junior, global studies major and social work/political science minor from Adrian, Michigan
Kyle Harcek (1st time), senior, communications major from Clio, Michigan
Madison Lago (1st time), junior, accounting major from Westland, Michigan
Megan Serin (2nd time), senior, graphic design major and photography minor from Adrian, Michigan
The Saints team was honored with their 4th NAIA Scholar Team Award and 2nd straight honor with a 3.20 team GPA. The award has been an honor for 14 years.
