ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights baseball team split a WHAC doubleheader with Defiance on Tuesday at McLaughlin Baseball Field. Individual recaps are below.
Game 1: Defiance 9, Siena Heights 5
Aidan Grinstead batted 2-for-3 with a stolen base in the opener while Kaleb Woods scored twice and stole two bases.
Mac Melvin added two RBI, Mason Baer doubled and Pablo Arnaud had two stolen bases.
The Saints held a 4-3 lead in the third inning before the visiting Yellow Jackets outscored SHU 6-1 the rest of the way.
Down 3-0, Siena Heights plated four runs in the third. Arnaud had a pinch-hit RBI single in the inning and Melvin ripped a two-run double.
Defiance took a 6-4 lead in the fourth inning before the Saints scored their final run via wild pitch in their half of the fourth.
Defiance added three insurance runs in the sixth.
Game 2: Siena Heights 4, Defiance 3
An RBI single by Brady Belegrin plated the winning run in the eighth as Siena Heights battled back from a 3-2 deficit.
Mason Mitchell had tied the game in the seventh with an RBI single of his own.
Siena Heights took the game's first lead at 2-0 on a two-run single by Woods. Defiance answered with the next three runs: two in the fourth and one in the sixth.
Joseph Woods had a two-hit game, going 2-for-4 for the Saints.
Dayton Stamper worked the first four innings on the mound before Garret Smith pitched the final five. Smith was the winning pitcher, recording seven strikeouts and two walks without allowing an earned run.
