Baseball Drops Pair Against LTU

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights baseball lost both ends of a WHAC doubleheader with Lawrence Tech on Saturday at McLaughlin Field. Individual recaps are below.

 

Game 1: Lawrence Tech 10, Siena Heights 6  (7 innings)

Mac Melvin batted 3-for-3 with two RBI and a double. Mason Baer and Zander Zeiter also had two RBI. 

Jack Semler doubled. Kaleb Woods had a pair of stolen bases.

On the mound, John Millen threw recorded seven strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings of work. Evan Dempsey worked two innings of relief without allowing an earned run.

After falling behind 3-0, the Saints pulled even at 3-all before the visiting Blue Devils took the lead for good with a 4-run fifth.

Melvin had an RBI single in the SHU first. The Saints tied the game in the third on an RBI single by Baer and sacrifice fly by Zeiter.

LTU pulled ahead 7-3 in the fifth. SHU answered with two runs on RBI singles by Melvin and Zeiter.

The Blue Devils stretched their advantage out to 10-5 in the sixth before the Siena Heights scored its final run on a bases-loaded walk by Baer.

 

 

Game 2: Lawrence Tech 5, Siena Heights 1 (9 innings)

Melvin drove in the Saints' lone run when he reached via error in the fourth. That tied the game at 1-1 -- a score that held until LTU went ahead in the seventh.

The Blue Devils plated a single run in the seventh and tacked on two insurance runs during the eighth and another in the ninth.

The SHU pitching staff of Dayton Stamper (5 2/3), Wyatt Burris (2) and Nolan Gray (1 1/3) combined for nine innings of work without allowing an earned run. Stamper accumulated six strikeouts and one walk while Gray recorded three strikeouts.
