Baseball Drops both Doubleheader Games

AUBURNDALE, Fla. -- The Siena Heights baseball team fell in both doubleheader games against Bellevue and Valley City State on Sunday. In game one, SHU fell to Bellevue 16-6 and fell to Valley City State 12-4. 

SHU (1-3) will return to action on Monday in non-conference doubleheader action. The first game will start at 10:15 a.m. EST, and the second will start at 1:15 p.m. EST both vs Mount Vernon Nazarene. 

Game one: Bellevue 16, Siena Heights 6 

Caden Gomes batted 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs. 

Shilo Bernal Jr. started on the mound for the Saints forcing four strikeouts while facing 23 batters and allowing two runs. 

The Saints took a 2-0 lead after Caden Gomes homered in the third. Bellevue tied the game in the fourth before eventually taking the lead in the sixth 6-2. 

The Saints chipped away after Mac Melvin homered and Mil Ramsey hit an RBI triple to pull to within two at 6-4.

Bellevue exploded to score nine unanswered runs until the Saints scored twice in the ninth after Landon DeVaney scored on a hit-by-pitch and Mil Ramsey scored on a walk. 

Game two: Valley City State 12, Siena Heights 4 

Kaleb Woods, Caden Gomes, and Joe Smith all went 2-for-4 at the plate. 

Andrew Baum started on the hill for SHU pitching four innings and striking out one batter. John Millen relieved facing 20 batters forcing three strikeouts. 

SHU fell behind early 6-0 before erupting in the third to chip away at the deficit. Kaleb Woods hit an RBI double to start the scoring off for the Saints. Eric Reiling and Caden Gomes each hit single RBIs to make it 6-3. Aidan Grinstead ended the scoring for SHU in the third to pull to within two at 6-4 after a sacrifice fly. 

Valley City State then exploded to end the game scoring six unanswered runs.
