A total of nine Siena Heights baseball players were named Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes, as announced on Wednesday. The Saints had the second-highest total of honorees in the NAIA; Hastings (Neb.), with 11, was first.
NAIA Scholar-Athletes include seniors Drew Byers, Alec Duncan, Nolan Herendeen, Mike Lollo and Travis Mielcarek and juniors Lucas Bartz, Drew Milligan; and sophomores Tayler Thelen and Joe Williams. Academically, Thelen and Williams are third-year juniors, making them eligible for the award.
In order to be nominated for the award, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status. A total of 257 NAIA players were recognized.
