Baseball Drops Two to Madonna

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights baseball team suffered a pair of losses to Madonna -- 14-4 and 4-1 -- in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference action on Wednesday at the SHU Baseball Diamond.

The Saints fell behind 10-0 during the first three innings and never caught back up during game one. After surrendering the first 10 scores, SHU pushed across four straight runs before Madonna closed the game with four unanswered tallies.

Logan Curtis had a two-run double and Dan Muller smacked an RBI single in SHU's three-run fifth. Then, in the sixth, Austin Hauck had an RBI double.

Joe Williams added a double to the SHU offensive effort.

Matt King was the losing pitcher for Siena. Ben Sorensen tossed five innings of solid relief, giving up one run on six hits while recording three strikeouts and one walk.

Taylor Grzelakowski (double) went 3-for-5 with five RBI, Ryan Lambrecht batted 3-for-4 with three runs and two RBI, and Shane Dokey finished 3-for-5 with four runs and three RBI for Madonna.

Dan Staples was the winning pitcher, allowing three runs on four hits. Travis Schuba worked the final three innings in relief.

In game two, the Crusaders (24-21, 11-13) broke a 1-all tie with three runs in the seven inning.

SHU had scored the game's first run on an RBI single by Dennis Sharp Jr. in the first inning. MU evened the score at 1-1 in the third.

Tayler Thelen was the losing pitcher for Siena Heights. He allowed four runs (three earned) on seven hits while tallying two strikeouts and one walk.

Tyler Butlin tossed 2/3 scoreless innings on the hill.

Donny Holland batted 2-for-2 for Madonna. Schuba worked 1 2/3 innings in relief to earn the win.

Siena Heights (15-25, 4-16) will wrap up its regular season this weekend with four games at WHAC opponent Lourdes (Ohio).
