ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights baseball team dropped a pair of contests to Concordia -- 2-1 and 4-0 -- during Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play on Wednesday at the SHU Baseball Diamond.
Siena Heights starting pitchers Jordan Basinger and Thomas McCarter combined to allow only two earned runs in 13 2/3 innings.
Basinger was the losing pitcher of the nine-inning first game. He worked 7 2/3 innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits while compiling five strikeouts and three walks. Fellow hurler Justin McPherson tacked on 1 1/3 scoreless frames.
The visiting Cardinals took the lead with a pair of eighth-inning runs.
Drew Milligan smashed a sacrifice fly during the SHU eighth, but that was the only run the hosts could muster in the opener.
Dennis Sharp Jr. batted 2-for-3 and scored the only Siena Heights run. Joe Williams (double) went 2-for-4.
For Concordia, Nate McHugh batted 2-for-4 with one RBI.
Cardinal starter Tyler Holloway pitched 6 1/3 innings of scoreless ball. Mike Melcher earned the win in relief while Ryan Bosanac got the save.
In the seven-inning second game, CUAA (17-22, 11-6) scored single runs in the first, third, fifth and seventh innings. Only one run was charged to SHU's McCarter, who allowed seven hits while recording three strikeouts and four walks.
Jeremy Robinson and Keegan Brandon had 2-for-3 games for the Cardinals in support of winning pitcher Marshall Oetting, who surrendered seven hits while finishing with one strikeout and one walk.
The Saints' defense struggled its way to five errors behind McCarter. Travis Mielcarek tossed one inning of scoreless relief. Sharp and Logan Curtis batted 2-for-3.
Siena Heights (14-17, 4-8) will return to action with games on Thursday and Saturday when it visits Davenport for four WHAC contests.
