Baseball Fails to Hold Off Eastern

YPSILANTI, Mich. -- Joe Williams had three doubles and Dan Muller also hit safely three times in the Siena Heights baseball team's 15-9 loss to NCAA Division I opponent Eastern Michigan on Thursday.

Williams finished 3-for-4 with the trio of two-baggers. He also drove in three runs and scored another. Muller went 3-for-5 with one double, two runs and one RBI.

The Saints (13-12) held an 8-3 lead through four innings before EMU tacked on one runin the fifth and four in the sixth to draw even at 8-all.

The Eagles' decided the contest with a seven-run seventh.

SHU had fallen behind 3-0 in the first before striking for two runs in the third -- one on an RBI groundout by Eric Henderson and another on an RBI double by Williams.

The Saints then scored six times in the fourth to take their largest lead. During the frame, Williams had a two-run double, Henderson and Mullen smacked RBI singles, Lollo hit a sacrifice fly, and Curtis drew a bases-loaded walk.

Siena Heights scored its final run in the seventh, going ahead 9-8 on an RBI groundout by Duncan.

Matt King pitched two scoreless innings for Siena Heights while both Kyle Kuhr and Tayler Thelen pitched shutout frames.

For Eastern Michigan (11-19), John Rubino batted 3-for-4 with a double, three runs and three RBI. Lee Longo added a 3-for-5 game with a double, two runs and three RBI. Layne Gusler was the winning pitcher.

Siena Heights will return to action on Saturday and Sunday with a four-game Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference series at Indiana Tech.
